This new mountain-contemporary home was designed and built in the private club of Balsam Mountain, just outside of Asheville, NC. The homeowners wanted a contemporary styled residence that felt at home in the NC mountains. Rising above stone base that connects the house to the earth is cedar board and batten siding, Timber corners and entrance porch add a sturdy mountain posture to the overall aesthetic. The top is finished with mono pitched roofs to create dramatic lines and reinforce the contemporary feel.

Reclaimed ‘Dalle de Bourgogne’ pavers by Architectural Stone Decor. www.archstonedecor.ca | sales@archstonedecor.ca | (437) 800-8300 The ancient Dalle de Bourgogne stone pavers have been reclaimed from different locations across the Mediterranean making them unique in their warm color mixtures and patinas and their exquisite beauty. They have been calibrated to 5/8” in thickness to ease installation of modern use. They come in random sizes and could be installed in either a running bond formation or a random ‘Versailles’ pattern. Their durable nature makes them an excellent choice for indoor and outdoor use. They are unaffected by extreme climate and easily withstand heavy use due to the nature of their hard molecular structure.

This project has involved the complete remodeling and extension of a five-story Victorian terraced house in Chelsea, including the excavation of an additional basement level beneath the footprint of the house, front vaults and most of the rear garden. The house had been extensively ‘chopped and changed’ over the years, including various 1970s accretions, so the opportunity existed, planning to permit, for a complete internal rebuild; only the front façade and roof now remain of the original.
