This project was a complete gut remodel of the owner's childhood home. They demolished it and rebuilt it as a brand-new two-story home to house both her retired parents in an attached ADU in-law unit, as well as her own family of six. Though there is a fire door separating the ADU from the main house, it is often left open to create a truly multi-generational home. For the design of the home, the owner's one request was to create something timeless, and we aimed to honor that.

Rustic at it's finest. A chiseled face vanity contrasts with the thick modern countertop, natural stone vessel sink and basketweave wall tile. Delicate iron and glass sconces provide the perfect glow.

This bathroom features a large, two bench steam shower with slate tile and dropped ceiling. The rustic cabinetry and backsplash bring character to the space.

This design for a year-round retirement home addresses all aspects of the site, which resides on the western flank of Blue Hill Bay and has easterly water views framed by a mature forest of oak, birch, and fir. The use of natural materials, featuring wood in all aspects, was an important way to tie the building to its site and its cultural context.
