We transformed a Georgian brick two-story built in 1998 into an elegant, yet comfortable home for an active family that includes children and dogs. Although this Dallas home’s traditional bones were intact, the interior dark stained molding, paint, and distressed cabinetry, along with dated bathrooms and kitchen were in desperate need of an overhaul. We honored the client’s European background by using time-tested marble mosaics, slabs and countertops, and vintage style plumbing fixtures throughout the kitchen and bathrooms. We balanced these traditional elements with metallic and unique patterned wallpapers, transitional light fixtures and clean-lined furniture frames to give the home excitement while maintaining a graceful and inviting presence. We used nickel lighting and plumbing finishes throughout the home to give regal punctuation to each room. The intentional, detailed styling in this home is evident in that each room boasts its own character while remaining cohesive overall.

Download our free ebook, Creating the Ideal Kitchen. DOWNLOAD NOW   This charming little attic bath was an infrequently used guest bath located on the 3rd floor right above the master bath that we were also remodeling. The beautiful original leaded glass windows open to a view of the park and small lake across the street. A vintage claw foot tub sat directly below the window. This is where the charm ended though as everything was sorely in need of updating. From the pieced-together wall cladding to the exposed electrical wiring and old galvanized plumbing, it was in definite need of a gut job. Plus the hardwood flooring leaked into the bathroom below which was priority one to fix. Once we gutted the space, we got to rebuilding the room. We wanted to keep the cottage-y charm, so we started with simple white herringbone marble tile on the floor and clad all the walls with soft white shiplap paneling. A new clawfoot tub/shower under the original window was added. Next, to allow for a larger vanity with more storage, we moved the toilet over and eliminated a mish mash of storage pieces. We discovered that with separate hot/cold supplies that were the only thing available for a claw foot tub with a shower kit, building codes require a pressure balance valve to prevent scalding, so we had to install a remote valve. We learn something new on every job! There is a view to the park across the street through the home’s original custom shuttered windows. Can’t you just smell the fresh air? We found a vintage dresser and had it lacquered in high gloss black and converted it into a vanity. The clawfoot tub was also painted black. Brass lighting, plumbing and hardware details add warmth to the room, which feels right at home in the attic of this traditional home. We love how the combination of traditional and charming come together in this sweet attic guest bath. Truly a room with a view! This project was such a joy! From the craftsman touches to the handmade tile we absolutely loved working on this bathroom. While taking on the bathroom we took on other changes throughout the home such as stairs, hardwood, custom cabinetry, and more.

This tiny bathroom had a major renovation, we ripped out the built in fiberglass tub and added tile to the walls, and a claw foot tub. There was also originally a corner sink, we ripped that out and replaced with a vanity with storage beneath.

Total renovation of a master bathroom. His and hers vanities, clawfoot tub built on a pedestal, for a better view out the window, and tile accents around the medicine cabinets, and in the large niche. Walls were tiled floor to ceiling.

The claw-foot tub, popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, can be used in both antique and modern bathroom designs today. The floor tile and tub add nostalgia and authenticity to the contemporary space.

A sunny corner provides a perfect spot for a clawfoot tub. Café curtains provide privacy yet allow plenty of natural light to stream in. A beveled mirror adds to the drama of the black vanity.

Girls Bathroom Renovation-Unfortunately this bathroom had to be completely gutted. You never know what surprises you will find behind the floors and walls of an 1890 Farmhouse. When choosing fixtures I am mindful of what makes sense in this space. All the while trying to bring it up to date so it’s not just beautiful but functional.
