The goal of this landscape design and build project was to mitigate run-off from a steep hillside as well as to beautify the front foundation planting at a condo complex in South Boston. This design features a traditional approach to the front walkway using a mix of evergreen and deciduous shrubs, an oramental weeping tree, and a mix of perennials. Along the slope, our approach was to utilize a mix of grasses to hold soil and also to create swathes of color during the Fall season. Designed and built by Skyline Landscapes, LLC.

This photo was taken four years after completion of the landscaping. Four years ago, we renovated this desolate, weedy front yard by creating terraces with beatiful stone retaining walls. Then we added colorful, drought tolerant plants that grow so well in San Francisco's Mediterranean climate. We installed drip irrigation and concealed it with attractive ginger rock pebble mulch.

This oriental-themed landscape invokes a feeling of tranquillity and serenity, whether the occasion is simply relaxation or friendly entertainment. Immediately connected to the outdoor kitchen area is a beautiful bluestone koi pool with water plants, fish and steppers, which leads to the spotted gum decking area and corten steel firepit. Under-lighting of the floating benches surrounding the decking creates a stunning seating area. The most visually striking feature piece of the landscape is without doubt the enormous Buddha, installed against stone cladding, rendered walls and timber screening. Incredibly impressive! Enhancing the oriental theme is an abundance of lush vegetation surrounding the entire area – clumping bamboo, a massive bird of paradise, trees, under-planting and a luscious lawn.
