28" wide island Distance between cabinets and island (on the left by stools) - Hi. How many inches did you put between the edge of the overhang and the cabinets behind the seating? Do you find it is adequate for passing by when someone is sitting there? 38". We strive for 42" of open span between countertops whenever possible. But this kitchen was spatially challenged. The 38" space works just fine though.
