any of these styles would work. black on black, w/black risers, wood treads more industrial/modern this would look nice. I like the tongue and groove planks for the wall behind, and right in front of the stairs.

Virgil makes a point Sort of. But faced with a selection of possibilities....................one will seem more suitable than another. Hits and misses if you will, as any design of anything is a compilation of cohesive elements.

Pink...I think this is the picket I picked out (only a single, not a double like the example here).....although I like a bunch of them! 6 of one, half a dozen of another....always too many options to choose from :)

Hello everyone....I took a little breather. I sure hope we don’t get into politics because this thread will go downhill FAST! :) I am up to my eyeballs with house nonsense. Too much going on and too much to think about (and get annoyed with!). I absolutely hate having a gazillion workers in the house at the same time (especially having the painters painting right next to the guys who are using electric saws and creating tons of dust). Then you have the tilers (they are redoing a shower they had to tear out....don’t ask) dragging durarock up the stairs scraping the walls as they go along. And of course the guys were in the process of staining the handrails as all this is going on along with the kitchen cabinet guys adding some trim and touching up (think paint again) while the wood counter guy was sanding some things and drilling holes). My builder is not happy unless there is total chaos at the house. This is the complete opposite of my MO and as an orderly and organized person drives me nuts! Ok...done complaining. Went to look at rails for the exterior back patio. Unfortunately I much prefer the iron rails as opposed to the aluminum ones (just a much nicer look). They’re actually less expensive, but do have the tendency to rust over time. So I am debating. Here are some pics....I think I like these pickets. I would do an alternating pattern between a plain picket and the more sculpted one. Would not do the balls on top of the posts (they have more of a square type...forgot to take a photo). At this point doing the corner posts in stone is just too overwhelming (I can only do one stone post anyway), so I will stick with the entire rail/posts in metal. Here are some of their other pickets....
