Buena Vista San Francisco Modern House

A 4-bedroom house design on a hillside in the Oakland/Berkeley Hills. The Owners had lived previously in a San Francisco loft in an old warehouse--complete with factory sash windows, high ceilings, and mezzanines. They wanted a modern clean version of what they had. The site was has great views of the San Francisco Bay.

The house was divided in two wings with the glassy, open metal/open-toed stair connecting the two wings. The main wing contains all the public spaces as well as the master bedroom on the top floor. This wing possesses the open airy loft-like qualities of their Owners' previous home--High ceilings, mezzanine, factory sash windows, and exposed steel frame. The other wing contains the bedrooms, supporting spaces and is more enclosed than the other wing.

Both the living room and the mezzanine have views of San Francisco Bay, afforded by a monumental front glass window-skylight system, complete with automatic electric shades. continuous strip windows fill the living room with light.

The house is filled with fine detailing and delicate touches that are not usually found in other houses.

House appearance described as bespoke California modern, or California Contemporary, San Francisco modern, Bay Area or South Bay Eresidential design, with Sustainability and green design.
