    Yes - we custom made a stainless piece for support, then overlaid it with Ipe deck board.

    Correct. No decking lumber would stay ridged at the distance between posts.

    In my case, I used pressure treated lumber for the top rail to match the deck. However, I also used wood posts with metal supports.

    Looks nice. With your shorter spans and thicker decking it will probably be fine.
