Design Dilemma DIY Fireplaces

Keep this fireplace or replace it?

Should we try and update this fireplace or just remove it all and replace with a stove? first pic is with a gas fire on it which is now removed, unsure what might make it look more appealing…paint the surround or change the tiles? or just lose it all? The tiles are very blue.

If you want to keep the house authenticity then don't change the tiles with stone/granite cladding, painting the Wood frame white with help since it harmonizes the blue tiles, you can look up blue tiles fireplace idea

I would never keep something I didn't like, it makes no sense. Think about your style and vibe and make it how you want it. I'm all for period features, generally I love them, but if it becomes the 'thing' in the room and you have to decorate around it then look for alternatives. I don't like or dislike it but I've kept things before and regretted it.

Ooh Darzy I like your thinking. Actually the curtains are taupe and a nearly mint green - not stripes more they blend into each other (see pic). But if I got some art picking out those 2 colours that could work. I love teal but not sure about it on this wall. Maybe coral could be nice or is that too on trend? I also have an old chair I need to get reupholstered and was struggling for ideas for that. But a floral pattern with the green and taupe from the curtains and a third colour that matches the art could work well - ideas, ideas, ideas!Thank you Houzzers I knew you'd help me to look at this differently.

I must admit I don't like it either, sorry.. Given the resurgence of mid century design you can probably sell it (or store it for next owner). I'd ring a salvage yard or try ebay. I don't know a lot about the 50s but it would appear tiled fireplaces were the style (I thought there were a lot of brick ones but apparently not!) but most people removed or had no fireplace. If you want to retain character I would suggest getting a really contemporary one rather than a fireplace from another period but that may just be me! Lovely room though

Behind the far left glass panel is a cloakroom and behind the right glass panel I have a piano. (All in my hall ) I am thinking of knocking the cloakroom on the inside and putting a desk and hidden shelving and leaving piano on the right. And knocking a kitchen wall which now means you would see into my kitchen from my front door. I may partition the hall now with a pocket door for privacy. I can give more details if required ... My big dilemma is what style of front door would be great ! I don’t want the door and three panel look again.

Hi We are looking for some advice! We recently both a 1950's home and are unsure whether to keep the fireplace. I do think it has character but not sure how to incorporate into our mid century scandi style. What colour to paint the walls with it etc. If we take it out we are thinking or putting in a cassette stove in its place.

Becareful Vintage home finish are often Made by Wood or material that isnt produced anymore, so when buying house it better to choose the one that gonna be less change to it since it also cost efficient and might potentially decrease the property value with generic interior that often found in market
