You could try a few simple updates to enhance the look:

- Paint or Resurface. A fresh coat of high-temperature paint in a modern colour could help tone down the purplish tint of the tiles and your walls.

- Change the hearth if the lip bothers you, you could replace with a sleek stone, marble or slate slab.

- Accessories like a large vase, candles, or a decorative firewood stack can draw attention away from the elements you don't like.

I removed all of mine in my 1930s house as I just hated them. I don’t find anything attractive about these types of fireplaces, sorry!

Remove and replace it if you need a working fireplace. Your floor is lovely and the fireplace is spoiling it. You could put it to a poll?

The carpet and the current fireplace blend beautifully, but don't seem to 'gel' with the hard flooring. Depending on the style of the rest of the room/ house, I'd be inclined to scrap (or sell - genuine retro and vintage fireplaces are much desired in some quarters !) the fireplace and find something you like to replace it, bearing in mind the flooring that it will sit by. After that, you may need to upgrade the carpet.
