Is it possible to reposition the lower window so it is the same height as all the other windows? If not I would get rid of it and accept that the WC has no window.

Don’t forget that changes to the front of a house such as changing a window or adding a porch will need planning permission.

Is there scope to make each window taller, so extend the cill down on the stair window, and extend upwards on the wc window? Although,given none of the window cills is at the same level as another, adding symmetry might not be the way to go! How about a climbing plant, wisteria maybe, to draw the eye away from the odd windows? Adding an extended porch will impede light so may not achieve what you want.

Hopefully the staining on the wall is old, and won’t reappear once you’ve rendered. That will certainly help improve the appearance of the front once it’s clean and stains are gone. Another idea could be to change the glass in the wc to an alternative obscured pattern, something you’ve chosen, which might help you feel better about it. Then once the front garden is tidied up, grass cut etc, hopefully you’ll feel better about it.

Another thought occurs to me, what is in the neighbourhood? If you do something very different, will your house stick out like a sore thumb? Or won’t it matter in terms of the street scene? If there are similar houses, how have they addressed the window levels? I think I’d be changing the front door, putting wide, sweeping steps to the door, and using pots to put some lovely plants under the stair window. Good luck!

Sarah is quite right that some porches don’t need planning permission. But if yours is over 3m tall (which given the lower ground level it might well be). Or if it exceeds 3m square (which to cover the two windows it might well be over 3m) then planning permission will be required. Don’t forget you could build a new WC in the porch area in which case you can plan a new window with pleasing proportions.
