Deep chimney breast.

This chimney breast in in out lounge diner and sits in the middle of the room. It is really deep! I'm looking for ideas of what to do with it? Taking it out is not an option, but I don't know whether to just fill it in and plaster it over and have an electric fire on the lounge side of the living room? Or do I just go with it and put the electric fire where the fire is now? It's just a really odd deep chimney breast! And help and ideas would be appreciated. The fire in it now is just decorative and the old back boiler is behind this. Thanks

I think it looks rather nice. Maybe remove the redundant fire and boiler and replace it with an electric fire, although the fireplace opening looks quite narrow. Found this one but not sure on sizings.

That is nice. I would like a flame to make it feel warmer and this would fit. Its a metre wide at the front so not a usual size fire. I just hate that it's in the middle of the room and not in the living room area. Thank you for your lovely comment. I feel better about it already 😌

Hi Jonathan. You're right that the chimney breast needs "defining" in some way. In terms of painting, the only way I would go is white, or a a couple of shades lighter or darker than the wall colour -- particularly looking at your ideabook, which shows an inclination towards a kind of spare, airy elegance. You can happily use navy for accents in the room, if you like the idea. But I do agree that looking for a large artwork would be the first thing to do. Find something you love, in the first place -- and if it has a touch of the colour of the brick, so much the better. I love your dramatic fireplace, and the way the wood of the fireplace works with the cabinet. Go with the instincts you show in your ideabook.

Hello Debbie, Why not give a company like Opopsi a call.. They may be able to print something bespoke for you.. They also do canvases or Mural type.. I have not used them as yet but I think they could help.. I would say no to borders and maybe consider a wallpaper idea.. I think they do that too! Maybe you could even consider a more bespoke arrangement rather than lots and lots of photo's some could be overlapped or semi transparent so you get the effect of double exposures but with different images.. So it's more creative than a tile effect.. .. : ))

I'm really struggling to decide what to do with the natural alcoves either side of the chimney breast in our new build. We are aiming for a contemporary look and the wall in question is at one end of an open plan Kitchen/Dining/Living room approximately 11.5m x 4.4m (please see images of SketchUp model attached) Any suggestions would be really appreciated. Hello, We are looking for some advice on how to finish this wall in our small living room. The chimney breast wall only comes out 13cm so our first idea of console tables won't work. We are therefore thinking of getting a built in unit that will be about 35cm high - to the socket which will extend the length of the 3 walls, this has been done in other houses in our estate. We are thinking of a nice wood veneer and painting it? Would we possibly paint the chimney breast wall the same colour or the two other walls and leave the middle one plain? All ideas and suggestions are greatly welcomed! thanks! First two pictures are our living room currently, and third picture is an idea of the unit.
