Will it be possible here or would it look a bit silly? It’s aluminium so is very cold

I think it would work. When you need to open the door you can slide the curtain to the right. You have the space above the door for a rail.

Because you have cupboard doors each side I don’t think there is room for a curtain rail and gathered material

The photo above, captioned "Southampton" looks perfect for your home! On the inside, consider drapery panels with a grommet header, hung high on the wall. Would keep it contemporary but add a soft touch (very helpful on cold or cloudy days).

Thanks Decoenthusiaste! Yes that sofa is unavailable here and hard to find anything similar in local stores, but I may have one made up! So yes I’m using the images you post as inspiration and hope to find similar items here, I also love the grey Scandanavian sofa ideas you had earlier, and will use them as inspiration to get a lighter replacement. The blind on my window is screwed in place, but I could easily replace it with something that would let in more light, like the top down blinds (which are new to me!). I’m really glad no one has thought the absence of curtains an issue, as light is scarce here & I prefer the no curtains look. I do agree we should move the car to another part of our drive to get a nicer view out. A radiator cover that could double as a shelf would work well I think, I love the bespoke one, how cool! Also good to find out that you can get ones that allow the heat to rise. Re the music centre, I might replace with an iPod doc with speakers as Glo kindly suggested, In meantime I might cover it (and the dreaded TV!) with a piece of framed art leaning from the floor, aware that’ll be another competing focal point, but hopefully a nicer one! Thanks a lot for the tip re dimensions for a piece of art over the sofa and a coffee table, both of which are on my list to get, I would’ve had no clue re this and it’s fantastic to discover that there are certain rules which, if you apply them, can make your room work visually! Thanks again for the brilliant advice, I really appreciate it.

I agree, blinds, they are large windows so that is a lot of material / expense if you go down the curtain route, plus curtains may block out light. We have sliding doors like yours and have chosen to keep them free of any covering, however we are not overlooked. You might also want to consider translucent / sheer roller blinds which offer moderate privacy yet still retain a degree of visibility. We have them on our front windows for privacy as we are in a single storey house / bungalow, people can't see in (during the day) but we can see out. We also have curtains with them in the sitting room as we wanted it to be more cosy / private at night. In the other rooms we have another blind that sits over the sheer blinds, but this wouldn't work for all windows.

Hi Jonathan yes that’s what I was worried about. The gathered curtain would have to sit in front of the frosted window. Would look a bit odd? I could mount the rail underneath and close to the door

You can get curtain rails that are only fixed on one side and hinged so the can be opened out in the same way as a door - so you could have it hinged on left to fold back against the wall/cupboard when you need access
