Critique the kitchen design...

I have gone through so many designs for my kitchen. We currently have a small kitchen and plan to knock through and do a large kitchen dinner. Please take a look and see if you see any flaws in the design or any other opinions would be appreciated. And any advise on colours of the units.

It’s not that easy to see the photos tbh!

The kitchen looks lovely but I’m not keen on the protruding oven or mix of handles on the tall units. What’s the skinny tall unit and how many tall ones are there (it looks like one is just out of shot)? It’s hard to tell how many drawers you have? Many people favour these over cupboards. My concern is that the oven appears to be in the main path. Have you considered built in ovens and an induction hob or maybe swapping the oven and tall units?

I’d choose your worktop/floor first and then paint colour but a warm timeless neutral as pictured would be my choice. Little Greene have a good choice and the paint is great quality

I’m sorry but the first picture is difficult to see clearly and both have some kind of light preventing us from seeing the picture clearly. Could you share clearer pictures? Thank you.

A15) @Dara Cooke: If you can't afford a quartz or granite worktop from day one then I would recommend using a laminate worktop as a temporary solution. If you don't put tiles up as a backsplash then replacing the worktops can be relatively easy in a couple of years.

Hi All, Hoping to build a new house this year and to me the Kitchen is the most important part.I spend all my time there and love cooking. I've always dreamed of having a pantry that i could just walk into and see all my ingredients so that was a must. All the kitchens I've seen have lots of cabinets but i always end up taking everything out and leaving it on a counter so I want my kitchen to appear clutterless and have all my bits and pieces on show in the hidden pantry! I also wanted an island with a sink and dishwasher in it so when i was cleaning i could have full view of the kitchen and nowhere near the backdoor traffic! I don't mind my hob being against a wall as I find most my time is spent on prep beside a sink! I also wanted stools at a heightened part of that island so others could sit and talk to me but not be on the same level. However now I'm worried that I won't have room for a large fridge and freezer which is important as its a rural location so I'll be stocking food. Also was hoping to get advice on how to select a kitchen supplier? Any ideas are welcome as I'm still in the planning process and want to have all my plumbing and electrical points in place when i go to builders and tradesmen!

As the others have said it is rather difficult to clearly view the images but from what l can understand ….

The cooker protrudes too much. Is that the correct depth as shown on the image? If not then you need to have the adjoining base units deeper to match the depth.

Personally l hate handles or knobs to be positioned in the centre when doors open from the edge. l know a dishwasher will be centred but knobs or handles look better on the opening edge and it defines the opening direction.

In the corner return l think l can spot a corner post so l would swap the corresponding units to be a 900L shaped base which will allow both doors to open at the same time giving you full access into the corner instead of a wasted corner that you cannot access.

What size drawer packs are included because anything much less than 800mm wide are rather pointless because we store large items in them these days and tiny drawers don’t cater for such items.

As others have said the range sits too prominently and from a safety point of view may be better where you have shown the tall units so that hot pans can be carried over the worktop rather than across the centre of the room. Personally I think central handles look uniform and more contemporary than on the opening edge but to be consistent you need to keep all the handles the same. Consider finding a wide handle you like because you will struggle to open a fridge with a centrally placed knob. I disagree with Daisy about corner cabinets- assuming they would be the only narrow doors in the room they look dated- in this case I reject the practical argument over the aesthetics of consistent door widths.

I also think the cupboard over the range is weirdly high and if you have an extractor in there you may not be able to reach the controls.

And I don’t like butler sinks- the rounded top of the ceramic never fits with flat underside of your worktop meaning there is a space filled with dirt or ugly silicone.
