Bathroom fittings - what to choose

I know it is kind of everyone’s taste choice, but I want something that will last and not come out of style.

Are brushed brass fitting going to go out of style any time soon and is it not a “tacky” choice for bathrooms? As well as kitchen tap?

Or chrome would be a better choice?

Additionally, we need to fit 4 bathrooms in one house, would you choose the same/similar design in all bathrooms? Or mixture of designs? E.g. tiles, taps, cupboards.

Adding a picture of brushed brass that I really like, but don’t want it to look outdated after couple of years 🤔

    I personally avoid everything in brass as it's overdone and it makes it obvious when the renovation was done - as soon as everyone is doing it, then it's moved from timeless to trendy and ultimately it will fall out of the trend-cycle - good quality brass fittings that are appropriate for a house and layered in as part of an overall aesthetic will continue to look good, but if the brass taps and the brass shower surround are the thing that is expected to make a room look amazing forever then it's not going to work.


    I think the actual shape/style of the items also plays into how trendy/timeless they will look in a few years. And sadly also the quality of the items - the more you spend, (generally) the better the brass will look - both now and in the future. Buying something cheap and coated with something that is brass-coloured will not stand the test of time. Having said that, buying basic brass fittings from an actual brassware shop in the UK can be a great way of getting fantastic quality brass at a reasonable price - you won't get brass taps there though.


    I wouldn't discount either chrome or stainless steel taps etc - might not be the most sought after at the moment, but they will look like a definite design choice rather than following the herds to brass, and might even suit your house more - or you might actually prefer them with the colours you are choosing elsewhere in the room/house.


    As to the design of all the bathrooms - it would be best to not all be the exact same design, but they should all flow with the overall design of the house. Perhaps pick up on different aspects of the overall design and accentuate it in different bathrooms - so pull a darker tone in one bathroom on the walls, and use a paler tone of the same colour on the flooring of another bathroom. Pull a minor colour from a rug in one room into the ensuite bathroom. As long as they all make sense together it should work.


    You can use the same cabinetry in bathroom as kitchen, to tie those spaces together too - same shape/style or same colour, for example. Nice to have a cohesive design throughout, but preferably not one that screams "everything is new and bought to match perfectly to look good on Instagram in 2023" - you want it to be a reflection of you, your family and your lifestyle and for it to feel like it's always been home.
