Kitchen design - opinions please

Before I place my order I'd love to know your opinions on this layout - have I made any glaring errors ?

It's a 6m x 7m kitchen , the plan only shows the kitchen elements - over on the other side of the island will be a dining table and chairs. Also the photos don't do justice to the wall cabinets - they look hideously blingy in the plan but in real life they're lovely - fluted glass.

I love the tall units but you need to go straight to the ceiling to prevent dust and dirt settling on the top. I would put a row of small up and over cupboards along the very top as an option. Very handy for unsightly bulky items. I don't like the end open shelves by sink very dated but what you could do is a long double shelf all the way along the island with a wine racking either side for balance vertically. I think shelving each side of the sink would be better. You have a lot of cupboards but no deep drawers which are highly valued these days. Good selling point. I Like your colour suggestions... The little Greene paint company have a lovely grey so does farrow and ball. Where are you sourcing your Quartz and what flooring? Do your ovens have easy open shelf doors ..handy as they retract so don't get in the way as you take food out..Neff offer best ones. If you want a better balance of tall you could always do fridge freezer one side and pull out pantry on the other with racking. Then on sink side don't go all the way along the wall just have it as centred space so you can pull out larder doors. On your island you will need your bin as this'll be prep area? What is the room opposite tall cupboards? Need the island to look good from that side as that is what you will see. Hope of help. I'm embarking on the same thing and have spent hours and hours researching!

A few things I would change from experience...instead of a single and double door I would spend the extra money and put in a bifold corner section...would open up the space so much more. as for the kitchen...completely flip your design...put your breakfast bar closer to the window...make it large and multipurpose with the hob in it and then put your main band of cabinets either left, right or behind? We have recently restructured our existing cabinets to this layout and put in new countertops and it works far better than before!

Hello everyone! I would love some advice on how to design the kitchen in our new build. As you can see from the design there is a long 4 m window at the front of the house. This will be quite low and will be 50 cm high, so basically it will act a bit as a splash back. So my question is: can I fit in 4 tall cabinets in the kitchen (1 for oven- 60 cm, 2 as pantry - 60 cm each and 1 for the fridge-80 cm)? I am starting to think I need to shorten that window as I would like the keep the feel of the kitchen bright and airy with an island with seating without over crowding the space and not blocking the passage into the living room on the left? Thoughts anyone? Ps: please disregard the design suggestion on the plan, it was put down in the first draft by the architect.

I can’t tell what are drawers - you must ensure you have enough. You might also conclude that you need some one side of the Aga.

Fridge- I think it would be easier to use if in the corner- where the fridge is currently you might be better having units with worktop to avoid something tall in your eye-line as you enter the room.
I would rather not see the American style fridge, for me it’s a dated choice made worse by framing it with units and style wise it’s wrong (contemporary slab door kitchen juxtaposed against a very traditional Aga is kinda cool but then the addition of the Fridge detail for me is jarring).

Separately I think the seating part of your island should be full width in order to have more shoulder space for people at stools and to see more of the wood detail. If it is possible to have a wood interior to the glass cabinets this would continue that theme. If your budget will stretch to 10cm taller cabinets this will elevate the look. I don’t think the cabinet above the Aga is necessary and reduces the impact of the glass cabinets. And although I generally prefer not to see a sink on an island you might conclude that it would give you more working space around the Aga if you did.

I have no solution but having to leave the main kitchen area to get to the fridge freezer would drive me mad

Yes, my first thought was that the fridge/freezer needs to be swapped with the cupboard by the door.

Also the pictures make it look like you have lined the cabinets up with the front of the Aga- because Agas are deep consider buying deeper cabinets so you don’t have wasted space behind. Also make sure you have extra space between the Aga and the island as people tend to congregate here.

And I have just noticed the hob on the island. Two things- firstly consider making the island deeper in order to keep guests on stools a safe distance away. Also the picture doesn’t show any extraction so this may need consideration.

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate your comments - so good for others to comment with a fresh eye.

Fridge / Freezer - I see what you mean about swapping it with the pantry cupboard in the corner by the door. I did originally plan to have it that way round but as I only have 1.3m of wall in that corner , it wasn't enough to accommodate a fridge/freezer plus a larder cabinet to one side.

Where the fridge freezer/larder cabinet combo is on the design, I currently have a makeshift food cupboard re-purposed from an old bedroom wardrobe ( it's been there for 25 years - I was way ahead of the current pantry trend !!) , so I'm used to wandering over there even though it is a distance from the main section of the kitchen.

The reason I'd planned to replace it is beacuse it has no drawers and is more shaker style so didn't really fit in the more modern look I'm going for.

I get what you mean about the american Fridge freezer looking dated but I realy love the fact that it provides ice and filtered water which you can access extrenally - which we currently use a lot and love ! I'm not sure I could do without that feature now. Unless there are integrated fridge freezers that have that internally ? Then I could have the slab fronts.

Distance between Aga and island - I'm planning on maintaining the same distance between these as is there at the moment. It works well.

Drawers - The island has 3 x 800mm double drawers. Hoping that will be enough.

Hob on island - this is an extra really for when we turn the Aga off during heatwaves in the summer so it wouldn't be in constant use. Wasn't keen on a very deep island as I have friends who say their is too deep at 1.2m . Maybe I should re-think that.

Island - good idea to go full width on the seating area. Don't need those tiny cabinets either end as I have plenty of storage elsewhere.

Extraction - the aga ovens vent externally via that pipe. I was wondering about whether I should have extraction as well for the Aga top. It does generate a lot of grease !

Bridging cabinet between glass wall cabinets - see what you mean. That can go .

Thank you SO MUCH everyone _ I really appreciate your thoughts. Any recommendations on integrated Freidge freezers with ice and filtered water would be fab.
