Comments (2)You dont' have the room for a rod regardless of whether the track is in the rod or not. Ceiling mounted tracks can look OK, especially if painted the same color as the wall or ceiling, they really do disappear. It is not a traditional look but more a contemporary look. I think you are thinking of the old fashioned white traversing rods...they should never be on show. They' re usually used for panels that are under valances. If you were wanting a more traditional look you probably need to ceiling mount a valance and put the panels underneath, or mount the valance on the face of the track. The type of ceiling track I am talking about is about 3/4" x 3/4"x 3/4", and you can get them with ball bearing carriers so the drapery slides easily. How much space do you really have above the windows, because a thin rod can be ceiling mounted....See MoreNew sofa style
Comments (81)Hi Lisa, nice sofa. I had a red sofa for 10 years and loved it ( though mine was fabric) I've changed the kitchen/ living room and it stuck out like a sore thumb. I gave in and put in a grey leather sectional one and I must say it's much easier to decorate around. Are you in Ireland? Have you heard of the 1933 company, they have very nice suites. Red makes a big statement! Just my 2 cents worth, good luck!...See MoreCurtain pole position
Comments (6)As a textile designer and as a householder, I have made dozens of curtains and blinds for all sorts of situations. Using my experience, I would say, the turn in the corners of your windows is quite sharp, not rounded, so I would not go for a bay pole which works better with larger, more rounded bays. Instead I would go for a roman blind, as these are more grown up/finished looking than rollar, which always look a bit bathroom/kitchen (maybe two small additional ones for the smaller edge window sections, make or get them made with black out lining (they hang better too) avoid brass fitting on those, they look very dated, go for silver instead, also avoid twee trimmings like fringe or braid edges. You could make these look extravagant, clean and tailored, rustic modern, or modern scandi, or however you want, depending on the feel of your room. If you want to soften that effect, you could use dress curtains on a pole (no plastic tracks please!) over the outer edge of the window (i.e. not in the bay) - these could be light voile (not nylons or polyesters, cotton or thin linen mix is best) or more lux (that way you don't need a lot of the fabric too, so less expensive. Again, whether you did that or not, and what fabric choice would depend on the look and feel of the effect you're after. I would look at mags or online to get the feel of the room your after first, then look for window treatments that go with that look, referring to points above as you do. Hope that helps!...See MoreNeed help with bedroom colour scheme
Comments (6)Hi Orla. I've looked at your ideabook and assume you're happy to stick with the monotone look? I'd look at papering the ŵall behind the bed in Cole and son library panel wallpaper in midnight (pic will follow but it would also look good in a light shade!). The rest of the walls I'd do in a pale but warm grey. Which way does the room face in terms of lights? Go for black bedside cabinets but maybe something with curved lines or round handles against the bed. Either glass bedside lamps with white shades or in a warm metal or pendants hung low over the bedsides, Stick to white bed linen but add a charcoal throw with lots of texture. Choose cushions with different texture and patterns from White through to charcoal. Depending on what flooring you have you could also add a grey textured rug under the bed. I'd go for plain pale-mid grey curtains. If you have the space/budget a patterned black/grey and white chair would look great. I think the key thing is texture for interest so maybe also a large antiqued mirror, a chandelier with a silk drum shade, white flowers etc....See MoreSonia
