Can french pleat curtains on a curtain track ever look good? I have a tiny space over my window to hang curtains and the curtain shop guy tells me I don't have room to fit a pole so it will have to be a track. My heart has dropped to my ankles. A curtain track? Aren't they the ugliest things in the world or can they ever work? Am getting curtains made up with a french pleat style at the top. Help please!

Some curtain rods now have the track inside the rod with rings holding the pleat pins. I actually like the look of several of these styles and I am a pretty casual drapery girl. http://www.halfpricedrapes.com/pleat-guide.html

You dont' have the room for a rod regardless of whether the track is in the rod or not. Ceiling mounted tracks can look OK, especially if painted the same color as the wall or ceiling, they really do disappear. It is not a traditional look but more a contemporary look. I think you are thinking of the old fashioned white traversing rods...they should never be on show. They' re usually used for panels that are under valances.
If you were wanting a more traditional look you probably need to ceiling mount a valance and put the panels underneath, or mount the valance on the face of the track.
The type of ceiling track I am talking about is about 3/4" x 3/4"x 3/4", and you can get them with ball bearing carriers so the drapery slides easily.

How much space do you really have above the windows, because a thin rod can be ceiling mounted.

Hippy Style, Okay. Add beaded curtains over the windows with a pull down shade underneath for privacy. Bright colors will work. On one feature wall paint a background color and the do some hippy graffiti.....Add words like Love, Peace, Groovy, Beattles, Rolling Stone, No War, paint bold flowers and a peace sign of course!
