Please help with flooring!

We have already chosen our kitchen cabinet color and they are in production so that can not be changed. Today I came across this glorious kitchen by #decorhappy and fell in love with the flooring. I commented on it and asked if it would work with the existing flooring we have that will be adjacent to the new kitchen floor. It’s exactly what I want. In one of the photos another Instagram user answered saying make sure our light and dark undertones coordinate. Help?! What does that mean, and does the paint sample on top of my flooring do that? I have no design expertise so I am looking for suggestions. Tile backsplash will be white, Zellige 4x4 tile (although I might change it now seeing this 2x6!) and the counters will be black granite.

So my questions are, will something like the floor in the inspo picture work? And anyone know what it is? Appreciate any and all advice. The photo with the range is my original inspo photo. We were unable to use the exact paint color even though I knew the source so the sample you see was our second choice.

Checkerboard floor, harlequin is a diamond shape. I love that floor however, I think there is a lot going on in that particular kitchen on decorhappy. I would suggest that you give a checkerboard floor a lot of thought before you buy the tile. Search Houzz for examples and see what the other major elements in those kitchens look like. Enjoy the process!

I am a little confused but love your top colors, very similar to my own! Are you trying to do a harlequin floor? with the same wood or to go next to that wood?

I want to do the checkered(?) (is that harlequin?) floor in the kitchen but it would be next to the floor in the photo with the paint swatch on top of it so I’m not understanding what the other user was saying about undertones?

Since you are keeping the flooring, everything new has to be in relation to the floor. Do you have a photo of the floor? Hold up samples of the cabinet paint and see if it enhances the flooring. You might need a more cream paint on cabinet and see these dark knobs. Some of the marble-type have many gray streaks. I'd look for something with brown-beige streaks to enhance the beige grout and beige floor tilehttps://www.houzz.com/photos/traditional-bathroom-traditional-bathroom-phvw-vp~93581 The back splash I'd do in the same "marble" as the counters b/c if you match the beige grout of the floors, with the subway tile, the back splash tile will look odd and if you use a white grout on the subway tile, it will look odd with the floors, too.

Seeing it as an almost whole, I do think now that I like the soft, patterned curtain for the room. It could become overly severe, and that would be enough to stop that happening. Second thought, you don't need a side table for the sectional, but you do need something there to hold a lamp -- silver or glass would probably be best. The stand could be very plain, a box shape, even, in the same finish as the wood you already have. I liked these from wayfair.com -- though I might change the shades on a couple of them. Not that they're bad. The last one is an alternative approach if you fancy a bit of colour a-poppin'.

I have a similar kitchen although the work tops are not dark. We have a light, white/Ivory tile on the floor. Looks lovely and bright, especially for our small kitchen.

hi all, i'm finalising floor plans for single storey new build. We like the layout generally but there are a few niggling things that we need advice on. 1. The sliding door /patio doors are in the family room- there is no door out from kitchen. Would people recommend having this in Kitchen OR Leaving it as is in the family room. 2. The hotpress /linen store size? is it too small? and also it's position accessing through utility. would people recommend this or not? 3. The exterior look has a mono pitch roof on the kitchen diner family room- would people recommend full height in kitchen diner and then reduce for family room? or vice versa. 4. The width of the kitchen family diner is 4.8m- is this enough to allow for island or should we consider going to 5m deep? 5. In general the house is North facing, do people feel that we are maximising light through use of windows and position of living areas? ( that's v general question-but i feel more could be done) I'd appreciate all opinions advice as I really don't want to make any obvious mistakes that I'll regret. thanks very much.

It could coordinate, but you have to understand the undertone of your cabinet color, and the adjacent flooring, and then match the floor tile to the same undertone. For example, for the paint sample you show, does it lean toward blue, or violet, or green? For the wood, does it have a cool, taupe/green/ or gray tone, or is it more warm (think wheat, blond, copper, orange, red, pink). Hard to tell on computer screen. Thank you. I will check out that think. The cabinet color undertone is green. The wood floor definitely leans warm in my uneducated opinion. So with a warm wood undertone with a gray undertone paint, where do I go with this?

You want a floor as the black white?

You need two TILES. Same size. In a porcelain. There was another thread a while ago, similar inspo, and the tiles in the inspo? Peel and stick, vinyl. .................................................

^^ good advice - i would be wary of falling in love with a single element especially as the design is already underway (but i am def a less is more girl)

I'm confused. Your counters are black and are your cabinets that dark grey in the top photo? or a different colour. If they are grey then putting grey/white checkerboard on the floor for me, is just too much black/grey.

IMO do the same floor as the adjoining spaces then you can do whatever for accents in the kitchen that are a lot less expensive than a new floor.IMO black granite would not be my choice with that cabinet color and for sure I would not add another black to the mix. Backsplas and wall color are beset chosen after the kitchen is installed including the floor which BTW should be installed before cabinets in most cases.

Why not just run the wood floor in the kitchen too?

@cpartist the previous owners applied marmoleum to original wood floors which will ruin the floors when we pull it up, and, a portion of the kitchen flooded and ruined it further. We did feather in new wood flooring in our upstairs by a reputable hardwood professional but it still looks too different and bugs me. So I figured an entirely different style of flooring in this small kitchen would be better. I have rethought the black and white checkerboard/harlequin and am looking for something different but don’t know what.

Please help with flooring!
