Design Dilemma Dining Rooms Home Decorating

ideas for a small dining room

I have a small dining room in between the kitchen and living room. The layout is quite awkward as it feels a bit like a walk way between the two rooms. There is also a joining bathroom which adds to the awkwardness.

Looking back, it would have been best to remove the wall between the kitchen and dining room but as the kitchen has now been renovated it would be a bit too distructive.

Any ideas on the neat layout and design for this room?

There is no easy way to say this. Your lounge and dining room are pathways to other rooms so will not function as you hope unless you resolve that issue.

Here's an idea:

You could still create storage under the stairs, but closer to the entrance hall.

Just a quick note to thank you all for sharing your thought, ideas, experience and time. It may not be perfect or according to the the "Rules", but it is Me and my family. Each and every piece was chosen by me in different parts of the world and each one of them has a unique story behind. I am very pleased with my space. I love it! I am very blessed. .... and so I am off to my new project now... Back to school.... that's really going to be hard ;) Thank you all, once again.

What to do with a small back of the house room?

This is the room... Believe me this is an old house and the refurb is on the way so as they say" look past what's there now" it's connected to a corridor and in front of it is the front if the house with porch and large windows. I would love to make this a front to back look but it is below a road at the back and just looks into a yard! The views are magnificent at the front as we over look the sea ! I'm so stool on ideas. To the right is the bathroom to the left we are building a utility room... My initial thoughts were that I would like it to be an extension of the hall.. Help!

Hi. I think a Chesterfield would be nice, you can find some small ones c5ft or so which will allow for a narrow lamp table or trunk. I'd go for a ŵall to wall bookcase behind the sofa with a couple of ŵall lights affixed. I don't know what styles you like but perhaps french doors painted in a dark grey to give a crittall look. Does the tv fit in the alcove if you were to add shelves and then add art over the fire with a large mirror on the ŵall facing you? I would keep colours light (is the kitchen grey?) and although it would fill the space a little I might add a narrow upholstered footstool which you can use as extra seating and/or add a tray on one half which you can accessorise

Is the room small, or is the child small? For all bedrooms, a comfortable and safe bed for the age of the child is the first priority. If the child is old enough to talk, ask what colors and things the child would like in the room. You do not have to DO everything the child wants, but it is always a good idea to work together.

Could you move the shower room to the RHS, perhaps moving the sitting room door over to the left

I think your main problem is the position of the kitchen door and the dining room door they almost create a straight line. Would it be possible to widen your kitchen doorway and possibly remove the door between the dining room and the lounge? That would open it up more and link the dining room and the lounge together. I wouldn't move the shower room it would be way too expensive not to mention really disruptive. If you can't change kitchen dining door then I would change the dining lounge doorway to make a better connected space.
