A roller or roman blind inside the window recess?

I want curtains, i dont think blinds look very nice :(

Fix a curtain rail to the ceiling.

So the ceiling is completely uneven and you can see there is a beam/box in the way

A blind would be your best option. You could also have some lightweight curtains on a cafe rod fitted to the top of the window.

I think you could resolve the unevenness by fixing a batten to the ceiling, then a curtain rail to that. If you have the curtain rail butting up to the beam it could extend a little beyond the window to the left. Maybe you could draw curtains back to the left where there's more space. We have a ceiling rail for a window which is set into a bay and has wall each end. Works very well and curtains barely cover any window when drawn across.

Just looking at your photo again, I wonder whether the batten idea could be extended to include the beam, so you’d have a lower section but going wider than the window frame, so you could have a ceiling mounted rail with curtains hanging either side. I should think a handy person should be able to do something for you.

One option would be to have a side draped curtain

I agree with Jonathan above. Personally, if I were designing the room (depending on the overall style) I would do a blind on the inner recess (roller takes up the least space) - this will allow the light to be controlled or blacked out if needed ....and then a single side curtain or voile to give the look you like.

A lovely Roman Blind is your best option I feel. I know you don’t want a blind but it seems the best idea. It can be placed in the recess or outside it. You can get some beautiful fabrics to suit your lovely window. Roman Blinds are very elegant. This one is from Dunelm.

Agree a Roman blind would work best.
