What wall colour to choose against this fireplace
Hi everyone, we've just moved into a small terrace house in London and we're looking for some colour inspiration. The current living room has lovely wooden pine floors and then this 70s(?) fireplace. Longer term, I think we'd look to replace the fireplace but for now we're trying to find a colour which would really compliment it to paint the chimney breast and in built bookshelves. Any ideas?

last yearThat is a typical 1930s fireplace. I had some in my 1934 house when I moved in, but I really didn’t like them so removed them all (sorry!). I think the colours you have look great, but if you want a change then I think Dulux Egyptian Cotton may sit well, or any of the taupe/beige shades.

Comments (3)Slipper Satin, Stoney Ground or shaded white are the recommended complimentary colours but if you really want a grey you could try strong white. I've got French Gray Units which isn't a million miles away from Mizzle and I've used Dulux Egyptian Cotton on the walls, it's definitely grey (although doesn't look it on colour chart) but got a beige undertone so would work with your flooring....See MoreHow to decorate wall behind fireplace
Comments (8)I love your room, but it isn't done! Find some jazzy art to hang over the fireplace in vibrant colors. Select a major and minor color from the art work and add pillows, and 3 accessories that are LARGE to place on three places in the book shelves. Comments (1)A medium color floor is easier to keep looking clean than a dark or light floor. For an open floor plan, I would choose planks. last yearI guess if you want to work with the colours, you could embrace the browns and go with something like Graham & Browns Toasted Teacake which is available in various finishes. Dulux Heritage range do a warm colour called Golden Ivory. If you want to go for an even more neutral look, I would look at the same range and go for Pewter plate.
