Exposing red brick around fireplace - Concrete or plaster?

Hi, I've just bought my first house and I'm looking at exposing the red brick surrounding our woodburner. I believe the material is concrete, rather than plaster. I'd love any advise on how I should tackle this? Would I be able to remove this manually, or would i require some specialist tool. Thanks in advance!

    Not sure what you mean. Do you want to remove the lilac painted plaster?

    It would be more normals to plaster a wall than concrete it. . If it’s definitely concrete you may well end up pulling out the bricks too?
