Refurbishment ideas on the vestibule please

Hello,

Would be grateful for suggestions /ideas on refurbishing the vestibule. Something that can be reasonable or may be done at a later stage, once I move in. Given that my current budget has hit the ceiling and work is still pending!

For starters, the builder has advised changing the glass, as it's against Building regulations. His advice has generally been balanced and reasonable, so I think I will go with it. Which is in this case is to go to Pillkington Glass online and give him a pattern. I hope it doesn't cost an arm or a leg.

What else can I do to spruce up this vestibule? On entering, the left-hand side has a ? closet or a linen cupboard. This looks old and in poor shape. On the right is the glass and straight on will be a new door, to enter the hallway. Please see the pics enclosed within

Anything I can do to spruce things up, now that the builders are on-site? Or can I leave it for later, when I move in and hopefully finances will be less tight?

Please do advise

Mel

    Thanks Jonathan

The coir mat seems like a good idea

The closet or linen cupboard on the left side is creaky and needs a change

Could I diy one on my own?

    Thanks

If it’s creaky it’s likely the hinge need oil not bulldozing.

Since your budget problems seem to be because you have ripped everything out forcing you to buy replacements I wouldn’t spend necessary money on this. Just paint it to give it a new lease of life.

Hi Mel, I would sand down the wooden panelling to expose the original wood. The enxt step is to paint in a light colour allowing the wood to come thorugh. It will give you a Nordic, seaside feeling which will work as an open and inviting spce.

Since the doors aren’t wood you will never get the grain effect on those….. so save yourself a job and just paint it.

The colour should be consistent with other colours you use in the house

Hi, what do you want to use the cupboard / vestibule for? Be mindful of humidity levels. Maybe what you could do is sand and apply an neutral welcoming colour all over the doors and walls, so you mark it as an entry area. You could also use some vinyl click system flooring here only for easy cleaning and give a feeling what decoration in the house. What colours are you considering "moodboard" and theme for the home metals / woods/ stones, warm or cold?
