which tree to give privacy from loft extensions

Hi all

Hope you can help?

I have 2 bifolds that face the loft extensions as below. Can you please suggest a tree to screen against the loft extensions in front of my back garden? I have 2 red robin but i think i need a tall tree in the middle e.g. white birch.

Behind the brick wall i will add some bamboo in some large long containers.

Silver birch are lovely. They do get very tall and the roots spread so make sure there are no buildings or paths nearby. Otherwise good choice. Other trees you could try are Mountain Ash (Sorbus), Crab Apple or even an Apple tree.

thx sonia i have a patio that is 4m away so maybe the mountain ash (Sorbus) is a better option

Thanks. Beautiul space. Can you please take a photo of the wall that is across from the island? -there is no overhang on the counter...so I am not seeing stools there on either the long portion of the island or the shorter portion by the window. -if you mean by the window, there is a door on one side and an oven on the other.....hence it is a traffic way,,,,,,you don't want stools there I am not sure why you feel the need to put something there. You might consider art on the wall across from the island to ground that wall. Need a photo.

The rules may have changed but when we built our extension the wall adjoining our neighbour had to be completely within our own boundary. It looks as if your neighbour has continued along the party wall and therefore half the depth of the wall is on your land. It might be worth getting a chartered building surveyor to check it out as otherwise it may cause difficulties when either you or your neighbour come to sell. If I'm wrong about this maybe a professional on here could correct me. Other than that I think you should make the best of the little private courtyard it has afforded you by using plants in pots and climbers to soften the wall.

not alot happening at the moment, its winter! alotta rain, lotta. but i am bedding down to get this over with and maybe in the spring the spirits will rise once more. i hope so. i would love to feel i was doing something to keep my hopes and dreams alive, i dont see what i can do until the spring. when i bring the topic up, especially to those that moved away and came down this neck of the woods, they say they had friends who felt it was too far too and moved back home. i guess thats how i feel, thats what i want and i just want to be a bit more uplifted, i think rain dampens down things a bit!!! santa Ma Margaret!
