Need help with creating a casual seating area in my kitchen

Hi, we have a long kitchen island with stools on one end & our dining table. The other end of the room is currently very bare. I'd like to create a seating area of some sort. The space is small 5ft by 9ft. If I put chairs there, we will be looking straight at the end of the higher island if you know what I mean. Any ideas would be most welcome.

Would suggest you get built in book shelvers on both sides of fireplace, lift tv into a slot it fits perfectly into (make sure you have power on both sides). Then it will disappear more rather than fight with fireplace as focal point. I am always disappointed with mirrors over fireplaces, they become dark, are to high to reflect much. Plus then you have three rectangles fighting for center stage. I'd say very colorful artwork instead. Wonder if you can reorient tv where the big chairs are so both tv and fireplace are addressed? Comments (11)Well, you could certainly provide some counter height stools without adding onto the counter. I would make the stools simple ones that don't call attention to themselves. Look at how the ones below are there to be sat upon but there's no overhang. The height you will need is called a counter stool. Or you have space for 2 at each end of the island with just a big of an overhang. People just like a place to perch while they chat with you while you're cooking. Comments (37)Hello CG, you can buy some of these and try them on site. From the pictures you posted I get the feeling you have 2 colors with similar saturation both fighting for attention. It's a little too much. I would keep the green but go softer on the red (i.e rust). You can also let yourself be inspired by the grey/silver/bordeaux floral and stripe pillows to create a brand new color scheme using these colors instead. For example, a very soft gray on the walls, gray carpet, grey/bordeaux combo in the curtains and for the sofa accents, pillows similar to these 2. It's decision time. Comments (1)I would ordinarily recommend that you don't mix cream/ivory with white as they can often clash, but you have pulled it off with the worktops! bringing in more white in the form of the glossy table will only enhance the look you have already created. the only other option would be a glass table with white chairs or stick with the accent colour of subtle grey for the chairs....See More

9 years agoDo you have nice view? If you do, I'd recommend getting rid of the blinds first and replacing it with nice curtains that will allow you to have view. The space will look bigger. Then put a narrow kitchen corner which doesn't have to be the same height as counter. I hope my suggestions help

9 years agoHi, thanks for your comments. Here are some more pictures. We have the venetian blinds for privacy as there's a busy road to the front. I don't like the blinds but I need privacy especially as it's a kitchen. Maybe I could use other window treatments?
