Land Registry: Multiple titles?!

I’ve had an offer accepted on a house and went to get quotes for conveyancing and it’s come up that the house “comprises of three titles”.
Done a quick google and a few people are saying mortgage companies have refused to lend if there’s more than 1 title.
Firstly I don’t understand what a title is - any layman terms for it?
Secondly, the house is a leasehold (999 years and £16 a year) but one of the titles says it’s freehold.
I’d ask the solicitors but it’s Friday night and if someone else can help me from wondering all weekend I’d be really grateful!
