Following this thread with interest... our kitchen supplier sells NEFF products but the compact combi ovens are very expensive and the reviews don't seem that great unfortunately

The reviews on line for every major appliance seem to be poor suggesting people only leave a review when they are unhappy. And compact combination ovens are more expensive than a standard oven because they are in fact a standard oven with lots of extras

Whatever microwave/combi oven you go for make sure you can get into it without having to be on tip toes! Having just one drawer under the main oven can help or a side hinged oven on top.

With a combi microwave you may also have to add a new electric supply run from your fuseboard as it may not be as simple as plugging it in with a 13amp 3 pin plug but needs to be hard wired as its a 16amp or more appliance. So if all you need is warm up occasional meals, baked potatoes and make porridge than a standard microwave would be fine.

You might want to seek advice from an electrician as to any extra costs.

@whizzywig is correct in checking the height, i usually have a 455 tall drawer below the single oven so the microwave is about 1200 from the floor, but i always double check and demonstrate this with a customer, other options could be a 360 or 290 drawer below.

@K OB if you have neff they also supply a 'Seamless Strip' kit for most of their ovens, microwaves and warming drawings, you minimise all the gaps between the appliances as it includes a metal shelf to fit on the oven to stand the microwave on and you get new longer facia strips to make it look like one large integrated appliance.

I have a microwave with a grill in my tower unit and have to confess have never used the grill. Son has a standard microwave over his single oven in his tower unit.

It is nice to have one integrated but not sure I’d pay a fortune for one.

I don’t use the grill in the microwave very much as it’s horrible to clean but I’m constantly using the convection oven bit of it, sometimes with microwaves too, especially for baked potatoes.

My brother has a shelf for a stand alone microwave above the oven (microwaves ideally are at eye height as you often peer into them) with a pull down door to hide it. Far cheaper than the integrated ones.
