Hi Avril. Those are pleached trees - these are trees grown on a frame and that will be pruned to maintain the square shape. The species used for this particular garden was Carpinus betulus, a decioduous species. Best regards, James
Oh thank you. I am aware of pleached trees, so is the frame just overgrown in this case? Or as you say then pruned for the shape. I will google them. Many thanks.
