Kitchen/Diner Layout Help!

Hey guys, we are planning to knock down the wall between my galley kitchen and dining room to create a kitchen diner. Any advice or ideas on maximising space in our very awkwardly shaped rooms appreciated!

The kitchen is 5.14 x 2.03 and the dining room is 2.98 x 4.18. There are patio doors leading to the garden from the dining room.

I'm new to Houzz and the world of interiors - looking forward to hearing your ideas!

Probably make a small utility room at back door

Build wall to separate utility from kitchen diner

Remove wall to open area as you stated, nothing too drastic

If budget was large, possibly extend at rear however sometimes its better to think smarter and maximise whats available 😉

Excellent suggestion from @cannonja, same as my thinking. Also, block up one of the doors from the hall, probably the kitchen one depending on layout of units.

1st impression carry the island until your a meter from the 1/2 bath wall. Make it a galley with all base cabinets as drawer bases. Do not try to turn the cabinets along the 1/2 bath wall. consider adding a raised bar of 47 cm with to the dining room side.

So I think we have decided to stick with the layout that we have and just block up the double doors. I hope it and it will be nice because I have lost a lot of sleep worrying about it. Thanks for letting me post here.

Hi, We are extending a house and are looking for ideas for the layout for the kitchen/dining/family room. All of this will be new building. The seating area should be enough room for a small couch and a tv and the kitchen can go anywhere within this room. Ideally we would like an island/peninsula set up so that our backs will not always be to the room. The window at the side is a high level one and may not be included in the build. The utility wall is approximately 2500. Any ideas or suggestions very welcome. Thank you.

Thank you both! Extension is out of budget sadly so I need to work with what I have. I like the utility idea, and I definitely want to block up a door. I’m actually looking at bringing the kitchen door out into the hall to square off the room but am struggling to find anything similar. Renovation is a whole new world!
