Need help with living room furniture choices
Comments (39)Latest update! Made a few changes to the book cabinet to the left of the fireplace. Added chrome legs to match the legs on the tv cabinet and added doors to the top half to try to make it look less cluttered. The lighting in the photos isn't great but hopefully you get the idea.Am quite pleased with the result. Am still trying to decide on art for over the fireplace, keep changing my mind but considering getting this canvas (see picture)....See MoreHelp with my living room

Comments (7)I think as well as adding life to the room with a different wall colour, you need to add some textures. But you have a great base to work from - well chosen sofa, floor, fireplace, etc. Great! The colour I would suggest you use in this space is called Sedgemoor by a company called Francesca’s Paints. I know you can’t get them over there in Ireland, but I have posted a picture of a room painted in this shade - perhaps you can get Dulux to colour match if you like it? You could then add a few cushions in natural colours, like dark brown, and possibly something like this from John Lewis: http://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-luce-cushion/p519627?colour=Blackberry. I would also add some pattern/texture/interest into the scheme through cushions - I really love the idea of layering up a pile of these, like in the photo on the Heal’s website (also posted): http://www.heals.co.uk/content/ebiz/heals/invt/583041/583041_l1.jpg. Then another thing you could do is add a rug, I would probably go for a textured brown one like this tonal rug from Habitat http://www.habitat.co.uk/mohit-large-brown-tonal-rug-170-x-240cm/rugs//fcp-product/24124. Hope this post has helped! Good luck! x...See MoreMy utility room-please help
Comments (3)I deal with a lot of laundry too, especially at times when the kids will bring me a weeks worth of clothing. Where I am we pay electricity at different rates depending on the time of day so if I don't keep it somewhat organized it will start to overflow because weekdays I can only do loads in the evening to save $. One thing I did was to install cabinets with doors above the washer and dryers. I just re-used ones from our kitchen tear out, but you can usually get second hand ones fairly cheap if you are on a budget. This keeps all our laundry washing/dryer needs tucked away. We also have extra batteries and lights stored in there and our first aid and medication in the other cupboard for us and our livestock. We also have a laundry sorter for darks/whites/linens. It looks like you already have a great set up for that with your bins. Not sure how old your kids were, but they can start at a pretty young age at putting clothing in drawers if label the drawers with pictures. I think my kids were about 5 when they started doing it. It wasn't perfect of course, but they would have to put them in the drawers after I folded the clothes. It helps if you don't have clothes that need hanging. My one teenage son still gets all his clothes in drawers because they never seemed to make it on hangers in the closet. I would designate a folding area for the counter above the appliances and the counter above the cabinet as where folded clothes stay until their owner puts them away. I'd also maybe put some hooks or a rod above your laundry sorter. This would allow you to have clothes that are hung put on the hangers until they are put away....See MoreVictoria
