Curtaining dilemma

I have a wall that has both a door and window. Initially I wanted to run a curtain rail over both then decided against the idea and chose a blind for the window instead. I'm beginning to think maybe a rail over both will do. Any ideas?

If I were to divide it I would have opted for the other way, therefore a blind over the door and curtains over the window.

Having said that I think a long continuous curtain would look good over both especially if you choose fabric that stands out to make a feature.

Thanks Daisy, the idea of long and continuous sounds more appealing. I'll extend the rod and put another curtain. I'll consider blinds for the door in the future.

One problem is that your curtains aren't full enough for the wide window. Houzz might have a formula but I found one here: http://www.ehow.com/way_6038775_many-should-hung-double-window_.html. Also, try this: remove the tie backs and let the curtains fall naturally. That should help a little with the fullness. Then buy pillows that bring in those colors. You can also add color to that bookcase by painting it the same color as the wall for a more built-in look. Add more collectibles or books to the shelves. Then find a large graphic poster for that long wall. Next pull the sofa and chairs closer to the fireplace so that they have at least two feet on the rug. Pull the end table closer to the furniture. Drop the picture on the right of the window down about 5". It's way too high.

What is your accent color? What pattern are you adding to the space? Windows can be a great place to add both color and pattern.

I agree - paint or paper the chimney breast in that burgundy/red shade of the fire surround tiling. Your curtains are lovely - methinks I'd be choosing a throw to match for the sofa + chairs, and I see you already have red cushions to accessorise.

It feels bland because floors and walls are beige. (ish). If you want to make a statement about a room. contrasting shades work really well. You have spotlights so the south aspect is irrelevant. Put a dimmer on spots if not already there so you control the light and feel of a room. I presume the fire is staying there so that back wall would be perfect for TV to be put on/entertainment system. Corner couch facing tv wall with chaise lounge on fire side. Behind the corner or L shaped couch, table and chairs so the room is functional for entertaining also and the layout is proportional. The room also has a focal point (TV)
