Coordinating rugs in an open floor plan can be a little tricky! The rugs, of course, don't have to be the same, but there should be some element that ties them in together such as same colors and try not to mix too many patterns. You can always add neutral colors and textures that work with any patterned rug. I like to use a lot of natural (sisal) rugs in spaces close to where I've used a patterned or colorful rug. Yes, try a smaller loop sisal or jute rug. That will look beautiful in a beach house! Also, make sure you put something on the bottom of your chairs to help them slide easier on the rug.
