What color paint??

I am a gray fan as much as my husband is beige so we decided to jumb on the greige train for our new house. The common area gets its light from a wall of east facing window. Which color will be best for this area?? Also taking suggestions.

Edge comb gray

Revere pewter

With all the deep browns and beiges in the room, I'd stick to warm or neutral whites rather than gray. I think all the colors you're considering are too dark - you need some contrast. What color is your furniture? The sofa color, chairs, rug, etc should be determined before finalizing a color.

I agree with calidesign. Choose the paint color LAST. Get your furniture, decor, area rugs, lamps, artwork, and so on in the space first.

I think that better colors would be gray (more or less light, depending on how large is your room) or white. Other colors that match with a mix of black and white would be strong colors as red or green, but I think they are too colorfully to pain living walls. In my opinion the best one is white, although it sounds banal, but it would emphasize your wallpaper and wouldn't condicionate the rest of the decoration.

We just bought a bungalow and are doing some redecorating before we move in. It is an old house with a narrow hallway and small rooms so we want to keep it as light and airy feeling as possible. We are putting in new doors, architrave, skirting, etc. and painting these white. However all of the windows (which we aren't changing as they are quite new) are a dark wood - almost a walnut colour. My question is what colour should I varnish the door saddles? I would prefer to varnish rather than paint these, but don't want to go too dark. How many wood colours is ok in a house, e.g. should we varnish the saddles to an oak colour and stick with this for the furniture? Any advice appreciated!

The colour would depend on lots of variants. Such as what’s on the floor? how much light is there? Do you have a splash back what’s the counter top? That said would you consider painting the island a feature colour? Such as ink blue or emerald green? It would make your island a feature. Good luck

Calidesign makes a great point! The space is very warm, so sticking with a warm or neutral paint color is best. Also agree that the provided colors may be too dark for the space. The space is very light and open right now and a dark color may make it feel closed in.

I appreciate you all so much! I did not think of any of those great points!! When I walked through the home the paint had a yellow look to it and I did not want it to look yellow. Is there a particular warm white that anyone would recommend??

Also my husband hates the white uppers and wants to use the same stain for top and bottom cabinets? Will that look okay?

It will look ok! Not amazing lol! First add all your furniture and paint and everything and decor to the counter - vases, flowers, bowls, jars ( LOVE the Mackenzie child’s collections for this stuff!!!) and then ask him again lol

Lol i Would love that idea but we are building this house... the pictures were from the model home we walked through. We get to make any changes we want before we start construction. His theory is it’s easier to paint it later if I still want it white...

Ooo totally forgot about that. I hear you lol. Visually I like the two tone. It’s up to you if you willing to sacrifice that for the hubs lol ☺️

You only get light in from one side of the space, and it's under an overhang. Keep the white cabinets as they are. I would also make the stove vent white. Your husband gets the stained wood on the bottom cabinets and also all over the floors. That is plenty of dark brown for one space. And if you're using the same floor tiles as the model home, go with a slightly darker grout so it blends in better. Choose a neutral white like BM Dove White for the walls if you need to choose before you move in. That allows you to decorate with any colors you wish.

I agree about the wall colors. However, I must disagree about the two toned cabinets. I prefer them to be all one color, with the exception of an island. My point is that there's not one right answer to the question of two tone cabinets.

Benjamin Moore OC-27 is a beautiful greige color that I used for my dining and formal living. The 26 is a shade lighter and will also look beautiful if you’re looking for a lighter shade like everyone suggested.

I seriously appreciate everyone in here, I am so overwhelmed with all The choices in building this house. in our contract we only get one paint color for walls/ceilings and another for trim. Trying to pick one color for a whole is Making me crazy. I figured If I can find one good neutral i like for this area the rest of the rooms I can paint again down the road once we get settled.

If you want the whole house one color I'd go with a soft white, or talk to a professional colorist at your local paint store. They will be glad to point you in the right direction.

The grays you’ve selected will all read green in the East light - I had both Edgecomb and Revere in my old home all with southern exposure, and the colors were gorgeous. Put samples in my new home with North and East light ....and I got green cast everywhere. I ended up using an online color consultant who recommended BM Simply White - we LOVE it. Gorgeous soft white with a touch of cream. We used BM Balboa Mist for our walls in two other rooms with Simply White as the trim. Rather than doing samples stick ups, please do big actual paint samples on the wall. It’s worth the time and money not to make a huge mistake.

Im having a hard time bc its New construction and I wont have the ability to see the color in the house. So I’m hoping to find a safe neutral that is kids/dog/farm friendly. White absolutely terrifies me with our outdoor lifestyle so I’m almost to the point of going back to square one and rethinking the floors/cabinet stain.

Jaimi- If you have pictures of what the space WILL look like and you know the light, then maybe do what we did (we also didn’t have access to our new home until JUST 24 hours before the painters were to start) - hire an online color consultant. The two colors she picked for us were exactly perfect, and I would have bet a million bucks I would likely ignore her recommendations....but we were prepared, threw them up on the wall with the EIGHT other colors I thought we’d want...and she was spot on correct in her recommendations.
