Hi really considering what we can do with the front garden. The crazy paving has to go 😂 we have young children so low maintenance is the key. we want to turf most of it but concerned as it's a big space it would look very sparse. I welcome any ideas, thanks x
A simple approach is to remove the paving as you said, then turf the area and plant a trio of Himalayan Birch trees clustered quite close, or you could plant one multi-stemmed one, somewhere in the middle. You have the room for it. These trees look wonderful even in winter with their lovely papery white bark. Of course you can add more planting if you are into gardening. This is the tree in winter and summer.
Trees would look great, so many to choose from, just make sure you check the width of the full grown tree so it doesn’t hang over the drive. In other words don’t plant them right on the edge. Other trees you could try is Ornamental Cherries, Robinia Frisia and Fagus purple beech, but there are loads. Apart from cutting the lawn and watering the trees in, its not too much maintenance, I hope!
I would advertise the pavers locally on Facebook or other sites as you may find people are looking for complete paving slabs for shed bases or rubble for groundworks. If you are willing to give them time to organise collection as you decide your plans for the space, you may contribute less to landfill and save money. Always a good thing! Have you thought about taking up some areas for planting but leaving some for seating and a table , not sure the direction of this area and sun position but having a quiet area away from children and ball games is a haven! Sectioning with a pergola and trellis could offer privacy from your neighbours. It also looks like excellent overflow parking, do you need this occasionally , would that be a requirement in your future plans?
