Depressing back garden. HELP!!!!!

Hi All, we moved into our house last july and have mainly been focusing on getting the house sorted but now that the nicer weather is coming in, we would like to get the back garden sorted. We are on an extremely tight budget so much so that we would probably be looking at doing one thing a month when we get paid. Thing is, I'm useless at stuff like this so can only hope and pray that somebody could maybe give me some ideas or help on how to make it a beautiful place to sit. I've included a photo of it at the moment (the bins and junk arent there anymore btw)

Repair fence and paint it a cream similar to the houses in the background. Buy a set of outdoor chairs and table. Put in some flowers as soon as it warms up enough- up where you can see them from the house is better than far away. Next year you can add roses.

This is our space and while I want to keep a lot of the green, in would love an area for bbqing and a fire pit area and maybe a nice fun feature for my kids. As you can see from the photos, we have an area that is fenced off and that is going to be raised vegetables beds. we live in a very rocky area. Because my husband has the area outside our back door cemented, there will be steps going down into the garden behind that swing set.please help with pictures please as I have a problem visualising due to a car accident. It would help if you could post some photos as this gives us a better understanding of what you are dealing with. It would probably help your thinking if you draw out the space and really think about what your favourites plants are. A mix of some shrubs, climbers and small long flowing plants like geranium rozanne will give you year round interest. Remember right plant right place is a rule for a very good reason! Maybe talk to the neighbours about cutting back any branches on your side of the boundary?

What are we looking at to the right of the photo that's white?

Get some annuals in the flower beds. Check the amount of sun you have and plant accordingly. You can mix vegetables and flowers.

From your photo, and in order, I would get a canvas gazebo both to give you privacy from the neighbors and to block your view of their houses and the kids stuff. Mine had the canvas you could zip up AND screens. We had our table and chairs in there. It was really lovely and lasted many years. There are ways to stabilize them on the blacktop without drilling into it.

Looks like you could use a new shed, I'm not sure the one you have is being used

we'll be getting new fences in alright it's more what to do with the grass area. The white thing to the right is a panel overlapping into our garden from the neighbours shed which they will be getting rid of. I just think the shape of the garden makes it hard to put any kind of design or pattern in.
