Suggestions for flooring with stone fireplace and bedroom
We have a home that will eventually need all flooring replaced. I currently am looking to do one bedroom asap, but will likely purchase enough for the entire home and install over time. It's a ranch home with lots of windows and natural light....I am stuck on decision here.....the biggest tone/color factor is the stone fireplace. I don't want a floor that is too busy because the fireplace already has variation. This has to be less than $4.00 per sq/ft. Budget! Currently the flooring is a mix of cheap laminate and carpet. I know I don't want super dark floors, but am not sure whether to look for lighter oak color or....?

You have a dynamic room with so much potential. Your wall could look amazing with the armoire carolins has pictured above. Of course, lower your sconces so that they're a about 4" below the top of the armoire and about 7" from the sides. Your fireplace should be your focal point with your wall being strong but not competing. Rooms get personality from smaller accents but you have too many little things that take away from the great colored pillows and the picture. Be careful not to hang things in straight lines--top of pictures should never line up with tops of doors or curtain rods. I wish we could see your fireplace in another photo. Chairs should form conversation groups with the couch like Carolyn has outlined. I like your chandelier but you might think about lowering it or moving it above a dining table--it looks rather lost way up there....See MoreComprimising on Open Pla

That was my immediate thought and also means that you will get light into your living area all day since the kitchen would be at the front and the living room at the back. It will be a nicer space to live in. If you really can't face bedrooms at the front though could you do something like this? It clearly isn't to scale!! You probably sacrifice a bit of space in that smallest bedroom but gain much more liveable floor space at the front of the house. It also gives your husband the open pan area he likes. It does sacrifice a separate entrance way though.
