Garden needs help

We have recently purchased a new house which we are renovating, the garden is an absolute mess but I have absolutely no idea what to do with it, I want to remove the shed and I like lots of greenery but we're not gardeners and don't know how best to landscape it, I think it's a North facing garden also

Here we are 🙂. Few rough sketches for you. Please bear in mind that they’re not to scale but just to give you some ideas (Hope you can read my squiggly writing). In all sketches I’ve increased the size of the hard landscaping outside the house as I think that’s where you’ll most appreciate it and made a separate sitting area on the top right to take advantage of evening sunshine. In the bottom sketch I’ve also included a pergola for height which may help from being overlooked by neighbours. Any other little features are there to just balance things out and could be anything like a garden bench or pond etc... and the hard landscaping could be any material you wish but if you want to use decking then I’d limit it to smaller areas as it’s notorious for being difficult to keep clean. Hi Sarah. Could you take a photo from the rear of the garden looking towards the house. It helps with knowing where the entrances are and where you‘d like the best views or focal points. Also, do you still need a shed? And what is around the corner on the right of the house? Just wondering if it’s a parking area or not.

Hi Rachel I will do that later as I'm not there atm, no the shed is going and either side of the house is parking and where a large steel shed will go, I was thinking that where the shed is could possibly be the seating area as its north facing anything near the house will be in the shade.. I think?

Hi lots of different options and ideas going on. I had a similar wall and understand how mean it can be to little ones. I bought and put up the expanding wood trellis. This instantly covered the area at a very reasonable price. I then planted quick growing climbing plants. I'm not a great gardener so I cant remember what i had but ask at the garden centre they will advise you. But at least you have a barrier in place to minimize accidents.

Yes, if the back of the house is facing north then the rear of the garden will get the most sunshine which in a way is good as you’ll be able to have a nice show of plants/ flowers when looking from the windows. Using the hard standing where the current shed is for a seating area also makes sense as this will be west facing so ideal for evening sun 🌞. I’ll see if I can draw a few sketches later. 🙂
