Books in Hallway

What is the minimum Hallway width, and Bookshelf depth measurement you recommend, to maintain traffic flow to not be too tight/narrow!? THANK you! Merry Christmas ⭐️

Good Morning Mary, The hallway is 48 inches wide and the shelves are 12 inches deep. The width of the hallway accommodates the width of the 3'-0" door with 4" trim at the end of the hall. We have done 9" deep shelves but this client had some larger books.

Remember that you need enough space to move furniture through the hallway...you may move or buy something that needs to be taken down the hall. 48” of open space should be enough for most pieces.

I am sorry to say you don't have room. You are only giving yourself 36" in front of the ovens and only 31" for passage on the opposite side and 42" is not enough between the island and the sink. You might find a smaller 30" wide x 48" moveable stainless steel prep table and placed in the opposite direction, it might work for additional counter surface but not give you the seating you would like.

Can't really see the main feature here, which is always the bed, but I'd advise moving it to a location where you can anchor it with a rug pulled 1/3 underneath it. i was going to say tapestry or a glass mirrored effect, as well haha. or just a large painting that you will love to look at. your chandelier is very nice, but i've seen many with that kind of entrance, that they have those really long, pendent lighting, for a dramatic effect. but i'm thinking, you don't want to change that. or a giant clock. or one of those wall stickers. or animal heads haha. few ie attached

If it's done smartly, shelves and doors won't necessarily make the space feel closed in. You could have a built-in seating/platform with a couple of shelves above, or all shelves for different functions, maybe a small home office...? Or you could have a slim mirror (in the space between the door and top of stairs, and then just hooks for the little one(s) coats, rucksacks, etc. Or if you want storage, you could have cupboards recessed so they don't close off the front. Or, why not a small fancy bar? :))
