New window advice

I want to make a new ope for a new window (or more technically a 'light' as I don't want it to open) in a really dark and dingy room that will hopefully brighten it up. I know the kind of Carlson window I need to align with the other there in the room already. But where will I find a builder who would do this kind of small job? Does anyone know a good and reliable builder to knock a hole in the wall make good once the window is installed? Perhaps Carlson do the whole service but I doubt it. Thanks for any advice and recommendations.

I built a lot of homes and many renovations. The vast majority has been white windows inside and out. We built homes with black exterior which look very good. We also had homes with stained wood and wood vinyl on the interior. I got to say the window looses its presence this way. It kind of blends in too much and looks bland. Many other customers have agreed with this.

Thank you for your suggestion....one option that I had considered was something like the below - having double curtains (one voile,and one heavy curtain). Do you think that this could work in my space? Also, just to note, the curtain pole (and everything else in the room will be going, as this is the previous owners furniture), so I am not restricted to the curtain pole that is currently in the original picture. Hi Becky I'm not sure what style you are looking for but try www.solidor.co.uk These are the best low maintenance front doors you can get with lots of options on colours, inside and out. We are one of their installers in Colchester and have four on display, if we are near enough pop in, if not just find a local installer. if you are after timber we supply Bereco, again go to their website, not cheap but beautiful. We also can supply Grey windows, not in 50 shades, but in 3, so you can have from light to dark. Anything else just ask. Regards Joe

Hi, We're buying a new house and the windows aren't in great shape so we're looking to change them all. It's a 2 story, white rendered, 1980's box shaped house. On the ground floor, there's a front door in the middle of the house. On either side, there's a living room window but the windows aren't exactly the same size (same height, different width). On the 1st floor/top floor, there are 3 equal sized bedroom windows. We'd like to go with a contemporary look for the house and after talking to our window suppliers, we could go with centre top swing windows in Aluclad for the 3 bedroom windows and fixed pane picture windows for the 2 living rooms. So clear glass with no lines or bars across all 5 front facing windows. (NB: Fire regs and ventilation can be covered through smaller windows on the side of the house for both living rooms). I really like the idea of a clear view onto my garden with no lines or bars across the glass and privacy is not a concern as we're well set back from the road. In the computer generated images, the picture windows look really nice but I'm a bit concerned as I have literally never seen this style of window applied to any similar style house!! Even the window supplier had to check it to ensure it could be manufactured that way. I'd really appreciate any advice, suggestions or images of houses with picture windows that they could share?
