Dislike my Bathroom
Comments (27)Mary, I am very glad to hear from you. I think of you often. It hurt me terribly when that unthoughtful person said what she said. I can only imagine how it must have hurt you. I would love to see how you have decorated for Christmas. I am almost certain there are differences between how our 2 countries do it. Take care and looking forward to seeing updated posts in the near future....See MoreMake my room more impressive
Comments (127)Lots of ideas....couldn't resist adding my two cents. i copied your photos and did a little cut and paste- it's messy, but hopefully gets the main idea across. i'd put your sofa in front of the large book case, chair by the fireplace, tv on the stand on the wall opposite the fireplace - so you can either look at the fire or the tv. Someone suggested using frames of one color for your photos - an inexpensive way to do that would be to spray paint them all a dark color-black goes with everything. Since your shelves are a medium tone wood, display things that are dark or light so that they contrast against the wood. Limiting your display items pallette to a few values usually helps to unify things. (I think that's why so many people want to paint the shelves or put inserts in the back to help your nice things read more clearly...some get lost). If you want to "splurge" -you may consider having a carpenter make a few solid tall cabinet doors to provide a visual break in the shelving. I'm showing 3 doors - 1 on the right side of the fireplace and 2 on the left to leave two open vertical shelves for display on each side - with things arranged to frame the fireplace as the focal point. To add some height to your big vases, consider stacking some books beneath them. Enjoy experimenting untill you get something you're happy with - good luck!...See MoreNeed help with sofa choice for living room
Comments (37)Hi, thanks for your comment. I totally agree - I actually have a large art print on order (vertical/ portrait orientation) and that will be replacing the mirror when it arrives. From previous comments I received everyone seems have different opinions on sofa choices but I think I'm pretty happy with the L shape one I've gone with - it fits the space a lot better (I think!) than the 3 & 2 seaters I previously had. I contemplated going with a different lighter sofa colour but practicality won in the end!...See MoreOur new house
Comments (1)It's tough without photos or plans. I prefer to put outlets in the baseboards they are unobtrusive when not in use. Make sure switches are closer to door frames and not in the middle of a small space of wall. For a floor outlet. Lay out how you would have furniture in the room and plan floor outlets to be under a chair or sofa. Be sure to have switched outlets in areas where you may want a lamp to be turned on easily. Dimmers everywhere. Think where you would want switched lighting. Think about how you would use the entire space...where you would have furniture, electronics, lamp lights. Be sure to have outlets for a major electronic bank (such as TV etc.) (computers, printers, other electronics) in these areas, be sure they are on a separate circuits and nothing else is on these circuits. Put yourself in the house with all its furnishings and see how it all works...this is how it makes it all easier. Be sure cold air returns are not in the middle of ceilings or walls in major rooms, try to have them located to unobtrusive areas (halls & walkways & between spaces). Don't let them tell you they cannot. We designed our home, did the entire electrical plan, and we were the general contractor. Because we planned so well the process went smoothly. And we never had a "why didn't I think to do something different" moment....See MoreBruce in Northern Virginia
