Help with bathroom layout needed please.
I would really appreciate some ideas on re-fitting this en-suite please. The first photo is the current plan and the second is the basic layout. Five photos are of the room currently (please excuse the clutter (the vanity is full of fiddly drawers and cupboards that nothing fits in). The final photo is one I´ve seen incorporating a bath into a shower enclosure.
I like having two basins, so would like to have that again.
The bath is never used. My OH would be happy not to have a bath, but I have reservations for the future for when the house eventually needs to be sold as it is the only bath in the house. I´m wondering whether to do away with it or go for something similar to the last photo. I´m worried though that it may make the room feel small.
Easy clean is a priority. I´m not a fan of lots of open shelving or fiddly things.
I would ideally like a larger shower than we have now.
I would like as much storage as possible.
The ceiling is very high and sloped as you can just about see above the shower. Here in Spain most bathrooms are fully tiled. Mine is currently tiled up to picture rail height and I´m thinking of doing the same again but without the horrid border. Open to other ideas though.
The floor tiles will probably stay. We have these throughout the house and although they wouldn´t be my choice they are very practical. I would like to change them in this room but I doubt we will be able to afford it and I would prefer to spend money on a smart loo (although my OH isn´t keen).
It would be great if a large heated towel rail would also fit in.
I like clinical looking shower rooms and white and pale grey with pops of colour in accessories.
This is going to be a large spend for us and it needs to last us a lifetime (nearing retirement age), so I really don´t want to make mistakes.

As a pro I wonder if you could offer your thoughts on a couple of scenarios 1 - Leave bath where it is - what would be involved in moving the shower 4-6 inches to the centre of the bath? I did consider the P shaped bath and will consider your suggestion for a shorter bath to allow room for the toilet, but I currently had to put in a door stop to protect the shower door from the entrance door handle and I would be concerned about a rounded door being even closer. If I left the bath where it is I have a couple of options, turning the toilet and cistern 90 degrees to the adjoining wall - see above for the considerations there, or I have also considered switching the toilet and sink. I would put the sink facing the wall where the cistern currently is have a large-ish vanity from the base of the bath to the wall, and the if the toilet was where the sink is it would not interfere with the doors for the hot press as the seat would be considerably lower than the sink is currently thus giving me the better access I want. In this scenario the main issue for me would be the toilet would be facing the entrance door, a bit unsightly but if it gave me the space I want I think I could live with the compromise. 2 - A bit more involved, but I have also considered moving the bath sideways along the short length of the room, shower end over the space where the cistern is currently and moving the sink and toilet to the space where the bath is currently. I think this would allow me room for a vanity and maybe also a tall storage cupboard for the towels and linens currently in the hot press. The obvious concern with this is the shower spray in the direction of the hot press, if I got the storage I needed elsewhere in the bathroom I wouldn't be concerned about those getting wet, but would want to ensure I don't end up with a leak over the stairs. Access would also be an issue if repairs were required for the shower pump or the hot water system. You would have to step into the bath to gain access. Comments (1)If I'm being honest, I'm really not sure on this layout. You have services on both sides of the extension, which even with my limited knowledge of building is expense that you could avoid. Do you need a laundry and a utility, or could you combine them.? Also I hate the idea of a toilet off the kitchen. The garage also looks small. Could you take out the door on the garage and make that the bathroom off your corridor, and make the corridor your utility. Then you have all the space free where the new bathroom and utility are. If you want more space for the utility and bathroom I would suggest bringing that wall in (make kitchen and dining narrower) and that would have the advantage of making your study wider. One other point is that leaving the study there with a window to the side will make the kitchen very dark....See Morebathroom layout

In the original room there was a shower on left, bookcases in cubby on right, sink against the wall on right and toilet behind the door. We are happy and willing to reconfigure all as needs be. 4 years agoHi Marina, it’s a valid concern about keeping the bath. I would check other houses on the property listings and see if any have no bath. It might be ok in your area. Baths are typically popular in colder climates, I guess there is no much need for a bath in Spain. You could ask some local building companies and estate agents. If you decide to keep the bath, how about this layout? The bathroom is a very good size and proportions and you have lot of potential to make it a luxury room.
