With a sliding door, you can have each side different to match the style of the room it faces. Here are some ideas that, believe it or not, are done with sharpies on flat surfaces. I can envision a "fireplace" on the lounge side. On the dining room side, you could do the "double door" look, by putting half on the door, and half on the wall next to the door. So when the door is closed, it looks like a pair of doors, but when the door is slid open it looks like only one door (but it's the wall!) I added the 3rd picture just because I think it's so cool. I believe the only "real" thing in the room is the glass table/desk, and the filing cabinet.

I'm getting quotes for the installation of either a sliding door or bifold doors across the back of our house. Will be about 4m wide. Some builders saying a steel beam above and below to enable door to slide properly. Has anyone done this type of job or have any advice?

We have opening in living/ family room in corner of room, 2.8 × 1.95 metres. We have steel post in corner. Originally I had hoped for a sliding door. Is the sliding door really an option , what kind of opening could we hope to get from 2.8 m door? any other options available to solution. thanks ciara
