Paint Home Decorating Design Dilemma

how to achieve this finish for wood

We are more inclined to get below finish for doors, Like to know how it is attained, painted, applying veneer or any other way, if it's painted guide with what kinda paint to use.

hi harsha,

you can use smoked veneer with less figures to get this finish.... In case you are looking for flat finish door can be painted with PU finish which can be matt or glossy as per ur choice.

...... sometimes even the ugliest just needs to be cleaned. A contractor turned us onto a product called Rejuvenate http://www.rejuvenateproducts.com/ This product can work miracles on anything wood. Can be purchased at Walmart to Home Depot. Read directions carefully and try on a spot first (closet floor) to see if this solves your problem. I used it on "hopeless" floors in a 70 year old house - hubby thought I had new floor installed while he was gone! Same applies to cabinets. Just sayin....

Laminate wood flooring throughout? Yes or no

Hi Cherry, we went with the laminate throughout the house and it turned out absolutely stunning. To be honest it's such good quality I don't think of it as laminate and everyone who visits thinks it's solid wood. It won't look like laminate if it's a good quality brand and you use a thick underlay. Using it throughout the house makes the rooms flow and makes the spaces feel bigger. It's also really easy to maintain unlike shiny glossy tiles! Good luck!

How to transition from carpet stairs to wood landing?

Since I posted this, I think we came with a plan! We thought that bringing the carpet up to the landing would not work. Why? Mainly safety. When you are walking up and there is a little bit of carpet you are standing on, it could have a little give on it, but also for walking down too. Then the bridge piece wold be in an unexpected place and people would more than likely trip! I found some "nosing" in some sites online and some looked nice, but were chunky. We said no, to those as you do not want something chunky sticking out at the top of the stairs! We are going to get a silver/chrome metal nosing to finish it off, which will be neater and we have chrome hardware on the doors throughout the house now. the carpet just was laid, unfortunately the fitter did not have the nosing we wanted, but its on the way. I will post a pic when it is done so you can see. Here is it, unfinished, at the moment, but so far no tripping!

Hi Harsha,

This could be one of two things; a Matte Painted Door in Duco Finish (gives the best results) or a matte polished veneer.

In case you're looking for a solid door without the wooden grain, then you should go for Duco Paint with a matte finish.

Using veneer will give you wooden grains on the door and it can also be polished to a matte finish.

This is the matte Duco finish which you can choose in wooden colours

and this is what a matte polished Veneer will look like. Again, there are a lot of options to choose from so you can pick the veneer sheets that have few grains.
