Comments (0)Hi All, Apologies if this has been done to death but I currently have a very dark dining room due to an extension that has been built to the rear of it. The kitchen has relatively more light so I was hoping to borrow some light from the kitchen. I am a bit nervous about fully bringing down the wall between the kitchen and dining room as I would like to preserve the entity of both rooms if that makes any sense. Question is any ideas or photos of the below ideas that can help me decide between the options I am looking into: (a) knock down wall fully (b) knock down half the wall to create an arch (c) add a sliding door between dining and kitchen? Below are some photos of the house....See Morekitchen design dilemma
Comments (0)Hello everyone! I would love some advice on how to design the kitchen in our new build. As you can see from the design there is a long 4 m window at the front of the house. This will be quite low and will be 50 cm high, so basically it will act a bit as a splash back. So my question is: can I fit in 4 tall cabinets in the kitchen (1 for oven- 60 cm, 2 as pantry - 60 cm each and 1 for the fridge-80 cm)? I am starting to think I need to shorten that window as I would like the keep the feel of the kitchen bright and airy with an island with seating without over crowding the space and not blocking the passage into the living room on the left? Thoughts anyone? Ps: please disregard the design suggestion on the plan, it was put down in the first draft by the architect....See MoreKitchen design question
Comments (6)Hi Fiona. I agree that the current kitchen seems undersized for the space. I'm not sure if the cost of removing the load bearing wall would be the best use of resources and space though. Your sketch seemsvto show two islands? How do you use the downstairs place in general? Is it necessary to have two sitting rooms? Would it be viable to move kitchen and dining into the largest room, smaller sitting room you tv and current dining room area for the 'second sitting' purpose. That would leave the utility area large enough to add a downstairs shower, maybe moving the loo out from under the stairs. All this should cost less than the disruption of knocking one wall just to build another beside it....See More- 7 years ago
