stairs bulkhead

Looking for some advice on putting a wardrobe over that awkward box covering the stairs bulkhead in the boxroom. Its about 100cm wide and 87cm in depth. I was thinking of getting a pax wardrobe from Ikea cutting it down to size at the top, however, to be flush with the front of the box, I can't attach it to the wall. If I do attach the wardrobe, it would be back against the wall with about 40cm of the box protruding out in front. Does anyone have a suggestion how I can solve this? Thanks in advance for any help.
