Siding treatment?

Was this cedar treated with any waterproofing, stain, etc?

    In this photo there is no treatment - left it that way for about a year then applied Messmers UV Plus.

    The closest finish to natural cedar is a water based clear however it makes recoating more challenging than the oil.
