Since you want a traditional look, that light in the dining room just will not do. How tall is the room? If it's sufficiently tall (it looks that way), you could look into a chandelier to replace the pendant in there now! I live in Kilkenny, Ireland, and until recently I lived in a Georgian house with 16ft high ceilings,,, so shock, horror, to find myself with such a low ceiling, as if the roof is falling down on top of me. We have built an extension in which our kitchen/ dining room will be. The kitchen will be along the wall of one side. There is a step up in the ceiling of the extension. I am wondering if it would look strange to have cabinets running along the wall with a change in the ceiling height.

Hello there. I’d like a change from my over mantel mirror which I feel is out of proportion. The width of the mantelpiece is 140cm and the height from the mantel shelf to the coving is 108cm. I’ve got my eye on this one from Laura Ashley which comes in either 60cm or 100cm diameter. I’m drawn to the larger size but that will mean probably resting it the edge on the mantelpiece because of the restriction of the ceiling height. Would this look odd with a round mirror and do you think it would even suit my fireplace? Many thanks.
