Living and dining room decor help + Home Bar idea

Hi, I'm looking for some help pulling together my Living and Dining room with an idea of the home bar as well. It's looking a bit bland at the moment. I personally like modern and slick designs and also

like to keep the room as light as possible. Would like to introduce some pops of colour - feature dining wall, rug, cushions, art work and some pendent light on dining table.

My Idea

* Planning to remove the wall which we have at entrance (treadmill as well ) and create a home bar. looking for something ready to use bar or room divider which could be use as bar. Already had some design in mind but that's so expensive including labor + material cost

* Will remove the TV cabinet and will wall mount the bigger TV. Also need to remove the red and black wall paper and thinking of putting white textured paint there with slick TV unit

* We recently bought the sofa and done the flooring which is cream and white so we can mix any colour theme with it which is a plus point :)

* Wants to colour the dining table wall as a feature wall in - Stiffkey, Hague Blue

* Wants to remove the existing dining and will replace it with glass top one

Questions

* I'm confuse about the wall behind the sofa, Do I need to colour it with the same blue and keep it white only ?

* Which pendent light will go with the look?

* which type room accessory (coffee table, rug, decorative) will look good?

* Big worry is Bar how to implement the whole idea ?

* Floor plan will be great - can I use any tool ?

Keen to get any suggestions or advice on layout, furniture or how to pull the room together whole still keeping it light and bright!

For the floor plans, you may want to use https://planner.roomsketcher.com.

It is a free tool, and probably one of the easiest to use, moreover if you'd like to use our construction team's service you can make a floor plan by just handwriting, so we can send you a quote, but honestly, it would be better for you if we could come for a survey and make all the measurement by ourselves.

Once again, carolins has taken the words right out of my mouth. I sometimes feel like a crusader for entertainment centers and lowering art! You have a dynamic room with so much potential. Your wall could look amazing with the armoire carolins has pictured above. Of course, lower your sconces so that they're a about 4" below the top of the armoire and about 7" from the sides. Your fireplace should be your focal point with your wall being strong but not competing. Rooms get personality from smaller accents but you have too many little things that take away from the great colored pillows and the picture. Be careful not to hang things in straight lines--top of pictures should never line up with tops of doors or curtain rods. I wish we could see your fireplace in another photo. Chairs should form conversation groups with the couch like Carolyn has outlined. I like your chandelier but you might think about lowering it or moving it above a dining table--it looks rather lost way up there.

Thank you for commenting. I was hoping to place double doors /pocket doors between the kitchen and living room that I could open or close off particularly in the depths of winter. I like my heat. Doing that leaves me with less wall space for kitchen units particularly the American style fridge freezer but something has to give. The back wall of the house opens/or rather doesn't open to the garden at the moment but I would like it to do so. So nothing unusual here, I just want a kitchen /diner / utility that opens onto the garden for outside entertainment, but I think my main struggle is with the length and narrowness of the room. I'm finging it really hard to visualise a functional working space.

Wow, I didn't expect so many responses, thank you so much for your time and ideas. I do know that the art is wrong but had to put something up from our last house while we settle in. I do find the fireplace a bit un-friendly and so I would consider changing the colour of it even just the border of it like one of the photos shows. I'm not keen on the small computer cabinet or the ladder shelving I have to admit. I was thinking more of putting 3 full width cherry wood shelves, bottom one being wider and desk height, changing the light fittings to down lights and maybe having a wallpaper or painted backdrop behind the shelves?? I realise I would have to get rid of or change the wallpaper on the other wall and change the curtains too. I take your point, many of you said it, about the curtains needing to fall straight, but I will need a wider pole to do that. Again many thanks, AnnaMarie ps we are in Ireland now but lived in australia for many years and that picture over the mantle is of an old aussie shed with moon light on it.

Thanks, I wasn't sure where the 9'4 measurement came in. If you're buying all new furniture then look for items on legs, as you can see the floor beneath it will make the space feel bigger. You can also use glass ie a glass coffee table or Louis ghost chairs for example. I'd also go for a large mirror over the hearth or not knowing your style could also have a ŵall of glass tiles for the same effect which will also bounce light. I'd go for a pale tone sofa and use warmer/darker colours for cushions if wanted. If you want a rug then I'd keep it in the same tone as the floor else to visually maximise floor space. I've drawn a very rough plan (not entirely to scale and obviously not knowing where doors etc are!). I assume you're wanting to buy furniture before you move in? If so do you have a similar size room where you could cut out paper templates of all furniture to see if the space works? I would mount the tv on the ŵall if you have one. Hanging it over a slim console (or slim cabinet for storage) means you can add art on the ŵall and accessorise the console so the tv doesn't become the feature of the ŵall. You could go for a coffee table or a small footstool which can double up as extra seating and table. I'd go for a round dining table, 3ft will seat 4 and you can pull it away from the corner when entertaining. i'd go for a 2 seater sofa (c5f?) but try and get a slim one. I don't know the size of the windows but blinds, shutters may also be an idea so curtains don't encroach on the floor space? In terms of decor do you want light and neutral or dark and moody then people can suggest paint colours?
