Any ideas for final touches to this living/dinning room?
Comments (51)Just a quick note to thank you all for sharing your thought, ideas, experience and time. I especially want to thank Bluenan and decoenthusiaste for being with me through the all process for the last 6 months or so..., just wanted to post few photos of the results (https://www.houzz.com/discussions/any-ideas-for-final-touches-to-this-living-dinning-room-dsvw-vd~569586) as I feel it is not only me who created this space but it is your creations as much as mine. It may not be perfect or according to the the "Rules", but it is Me and my family. Each and every piece was chosen by me in different parts of the world and each one of them has a unique story behind. I am very pleased with my space. I love it! I am very blessed. .... and so I am off to my new project now... Back to school.... that's really going to be hard ;) Thank you all, once again....See MoreHow to get the right look for my reclaimed douglas fir board!?!

Comments (17)It looks very pretty. I would look at pics of painted floors versus whitewashed and see which you prefer then people can hopefully help with methods. I've used chalk paint but not on a floor. Annie Sloan sell floor lacquer so you don't need to use the wax which is very time consuming to apply, the lacquer can be rollered on. The only thing I would say is that it does not adhere to I think varnish made in the 80's and I find the White paint coverage is poor although not an issue if white washing. I wondered if there was a cheat method using zinsser to avoid sanding if using normal paint and have found this, no idea on how successful it is! http://www.zinsseruk.com/how-to-guide/how-to-paint-woodstained-or-varnished-surfaces/...See MoreHow to stain stair banister+ type of stain?Advice please
Comments (1)I want to stain the front newel and banister and then i am painting the spindles white. All i want to to darken it a bit but to create a nicer contrast but not too dark. I am just unsure how to stain the banister or what product to use?? I was in woodies and they advised me to use the Ronseal interior Varnish that is a 2 in 1 stain,So i was thinking maybe a dark oak maybe has anyone used this? Or should i use a separate stain amd then clear varnish??? Do i need to pre-stain the wood with a conditioner?? I have sanded it back with 80 sandpaper. I plan to use BIN primer on spindles and then satin finish, to avoid sanding each one. Any advice appreciated, as im a bit of a novice!!!...See More
